Letters to the Earth

Letters to the Earth is an award-winning global participatory and storytelling organisation based in the UK that works to transform people’s relationship with nature through writing.

Letters to the Earth was launched in 2019 by creatives across the writing, performance, and physical media landscapes with an implicit goal of helping people reimagine their connection with nature through creation. Through their letter writing workshops and collaborative events, thousands of people have had the chance to express their love, fear, and hope for the environment, ultimately having their words featured across its media platforms, in public art works, and at global climate conferences.

Synchronicity Earth has partnered with Letters to the Earth since 2025, helping to ensure their presence at global conferences, such as London Climate Action Week, encouraging discussions that are grounded in – and deepened by – a sense of connection to our planet.  Over the course of the partnership, Letters to the Earth was able to support SATI Sustainable Alpine Tourism on a creative hike, bringing together outdoor immersion and the arts.

The Synchronicity Earth team themselves have taken part in these letter writing workshops, giving staff the opportunity to explore their own connection with nature and how it surrounds them, especially in a city where it may be harder to identify. Most recently, they joined a Letters to the Earth hosted session titled ‘Field Notes from Around the world: Rights of Nature in Action’ at the Rights and Nature Hub co-hosted by Synchronicity Earth at London Climate Action Week 2026.

They have featured letters from a wide array of people, from designer Vivenne Westwood to a collective call to action from school children, eventually compiling these dedications into a book. More recently, they featured Nemonte Nenquimo, an Indigenous Waorani activist and author, reciting the letter she had written on behalf of the Earth to humanity: “As a mother, I am asking you to listen to me, to respect me, to embrace me, so that I, as your mother, can give life to you.”

The connection to and interaction with the environment through the arts that Letters to the Earth centres continues to be a global project as they work to inspire communities everywhere.
