Emma Almeras
About Emma Almeras
Emma has worked alongside civil society organisations focused on environmental conservation and natural resource governance since 2008.
During her early years in the sector, the power imbalance between the organisations at the forefront of the work in the ‘Global South’ and their ‘Northern’ partners became increasingly apparent.
In response, Emma decided to focus on supporting organisations to determine their own priorities and lead their own agendas for change through organisational development and capacity strengthening support.
Before joining Synchronicity Earth, Emma worked as a Senior Consultant in Organisational Development with INTRAC, and spent ten years with Well Grounded, supporting organisations across the Congo Basin, first as an Organisation Development Practitioner and later as Co-Director.
Emma’s work has also focused on the role of funders, funding models, and other conditions that are key to either enabling or hindering civil society’s ability to thrive and have an impact.
Emma has lived in and worked with civil society organisations across Central Africa, and in more recent years has supported organisations working across Latin America and Asia. She continues to be committed to collaborations that uphold the value of genuinely locally led change.
