Future Generations Tribunal (FGT)
FGT is a youth-led network advocating for the rights of future generations by uniting movements, amplifying youth activists, protecting Indigenous territories and ecosystems, and driving legal action to secure justice for future generations.
Their mission has three aims, which work to integrate a model of long-term intergenerational equity in policy and legal frameworks:
- Introducing a rights-based legal framework to protect future generations, whose rights are intrinsically tied to the preservation and health of natural ecosystems;
- Integrating and emboldening youth and frontline communities throughout the shaping of policy and protections.
- Preserving and honouring Indigenous wisdom to enrich work and advocate for sustainability and intergenerational equity.
To achieve this, FGT works closely with international legal bodies, governments and other environmental organisations to push for legal frameworks that protect the rights of young people and future generations.

A key part of their work is to gather data to better understand how Indigenous People and youth around the world experience environmental harm, such as deforestation, pollution, and climate displacement. The Peoples' Assembly piloted their regional assemblies – the first of which was held in October 2025 in Kenya – contributing to the building of a global database of case studies on environmental injustices faced by youth and Indigenous Peoples in the Global South.
In doing this, FGT links their evidence of injustices to the rights of all those generations who do not yet exist, pushing for recognition and protection of the rights of future communities in law and policy.
